![]() © Beverly ![]() Monet's pondIn the mountains of central Japan is a pond, originally created as part of an irrigation scheme in about 1980, and not otherwise notable – except that a Mr Kobayashi from a nearby nursery took it upon himself to clean up the weeds with which it was infested, and locals introduced the carp. Eventually someone noticed that with the bridge in the background it vaguely resembled one of Monet's impressionist works, and this spread through social media. Now it's famous!
